Presents from my mother are often in the form of plants. These are always very welcome presents. The orchid above was one such birthday present.
A visit to Mum’s place, usually results in me bringing home plants she has propagated for me, as well as a bottle of worm juice. Mum has a much better success rate with getting cuttings to strike than I do. She also has much success with raising plants from seed, something I am rarely able to do. I’m hoping that when I retire, my propagating skills will improve.
Mum is also not shy in obtaining plants from other people, something I have benefited from. She frequently swaps cuttings with local friends and these in turn make their way to my garden.
Much as I love spending time purchasing from nurseries, I rarely remember where these plants came from. As I wander around my garden, I derive much satisfaction and pleasure from the plants given to me by my mother and friends.
The plants in the photos below are just a few which have originally come from my mother.
