Foliage and colour ....
Cannas are so versatile. They are extremely hardy and will tolerate long periods of dry weather, but thrive and flourish on our recycled water. The brightly coloured flowers stand out in the garden, yet when they are not in flower, the large leaves provide contrast with the neighbouring plants. Cannas provide structure within the garden.
In winter I cut the plants off at ground level. This provides much needed mulch. Cannas are also very easy to propagate, making them a great plant for a large garden.
I use a very tall canna to provide quick privacy. I believe this to be arrowroot. As with all cannas it multiplies prolifically.
