When we first moved to our block we were totally dependent on rain water for all of our household needs, so the garden was extremely small. We soon had a pump installed to bring water up from the river below and so were able to expand our garden.
After many years on tank water, we were connected to the town water supply. What a luxury: town water and water pumped directly from the river. Eventually the pump broke and was not replaced, as the town water was more than enough.
When the absorption trenches from our septic system ceased to work correctly, we replaced the whole system with an Envirocycle, which recycles wastewater from the bathroom, kitchen and laundry and treats it in an underground tank, to a purity approved by the health authorities. This water is used on parts of the garden where there are no natives, with the hoses being moved on a daily basis. Our garden continued to expand, so the Envirocycle became invaluable.
Nowadays, due to water restrictions and with the garden still expanding, we also use rain water which is gravity fed from several tanks.
